John 17:1 The Lord’s Prayer
Sunday Aug 07, 2022
Sunday Aug 07, 2022
John 17:1 begins Jesus' prayer to God, "Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,.." In this sermon, Pastor Kohl points out how in this beginning to this prayer two foundational points of Jesus life are presented. One, Jesus knew God is a good Father who is able and willing to do good things for His children. Jesus had a personal relationship with God and we through Jesus can have that same relationship. Two, when Jesus says "the hour has come." Jesus shows He knew God was in complete control. God's plans never fail. God had promised that Messiah would come and God would fulfill that promise, just as He will fulfill all the rest of His promises. Who God is and His promises to us are the rock and foundation upon which God's people can stand.

In John 16:33b, Jesus says "be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." What does it look like to overcome the world? How could Jesus say that right before he was crucified; betrayed by a close friend? In this sermon, Pastor Kohl goes over this passage and looks at what it means to overcome the world vs. the world overcoming us. A hint, don't get trapped by the cookies.
