Romans 3:1-2; Why Try

In this sermon, Pastor Kohl continues his series on Romans. After Paul spends Romans 2 explaining the inability of the religious Jews to save themselves, he begins Romans 3 with a question. What advantage then has the Jew? In our day, we could say what advantage to having grown up in the church, to having been baptized if it doesn't save us?

Romans 2:17-29; Forgiven Much/Loving Much

In this sermon, Pastor Kohl continues in Romans 2:17-29, where Paul continues to delve into the brokenness of humanity this time focusing on the religious Jews themselves. Men who were confident that they were doing everything right and, yet, they had failed, too. The sign of circumcision could not save, only the transformation of a circumcised heart through the work of Jesus can truly save. We have all failed. It is out of the awareness of our deep sin and need for a savior that our love for Jesus and His gift to us grows.

Romans 1:1 Paul

In this sermon, Pastor Kohl looks at the author of Romans. Who was Paul? Paul ran with very important people, he had a magnificent resume. Yet, he hated Jesus, how dare Jesus call Himself God. But, that would change, when he met Jesus on the road. Even Paul's name changes after his encounter. He was formerly known as Saul in Acts and yet, afterword called Paul. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." 2 Cor 5:17

Why Study Romans?

In this sermon, Pastor Kohl begins his series on Romans, with the question of why do we study it? Romans contains the basic statement of what is Christianity.  Humans throughout history always look to something as their authority. The question is do we look to God and His Word or do we look to human ideas. Our thinking must be submitted to God's Word. When we look at Romans, we find the path to safety for each of us laid out according to God's plan, not man's.

Acts 28:11-31; Running the Race

In this sermon, Pastor Kohl finishes his series on Acts. In Acts 28:11-31, Acts ends with Paul, 30 years in, continuing to faithfully fulfill his mission even while on house arrest. As Paul preaches we see again division between those who believe and those who don't among those who claimed to be followers of God. We again see Paul using the Old Testament to build his arguments, claiming that he wasn't teaching anything new. The Gospel is not new, but rather old. In Paul's life, we see the reality that Christianity is a marathon. Paul ran to win the prize and to finish the race for he looked to the reward. Do we?

Acts 28:1-10; Between a Rock and a Hard Place

In this sermon, Pastor Kohl continues his series on Acts. In Acts 28:1-10, we come to the story of Paul in Malta and his miraculous deliverance from a snake bite. We see the natives first believe that Paul was a bad person because so many bad things happened to him, then switch to thinking him a god when he didn't die. Both were wrong. It is super easy and very human to fall into wrong thinking about our hardships in life.
